Calculation of Temperature Rise of Shrouded Heat Sink

Under Natural Convection

This is an analysis of a large aluminum extruded heatsink with a shroud. It was analyzed on the basis of a balance between flow through the heat sink driven by the rising hot air, friction of the air and the power delivered to the air by the heat sink. The predicted and measured temperature were off by 3 degrees C.

The drawing above shows roughly what the heat sink looks like.
