In this photograph, the flow is visualized by the use of small particles illuminated by laser sheet light. The flow is around a 1-2 prolate spheroid and it shows the separated region. The flow in the separated region is reversed and it is swirling in a clockwise direction. The light is coming from above so the bottom side of the model is in shadow, which in the picture has been colored white. Compare this to Computed Symmetry Plane Velocity Vectors
