Centrifugal Blower Design
A customer needed a small high speed blower designed. It needed to be easy to assemble, efficient and low in cost. Flometrics designed the blower, built a number of revisions with different blades angles, blade widths, etc and tested them in a custom test fixture with various gas mixtures in order to optimize the efficiency over a range of speeds and flow rates.
The performance of the blower was measured and found to be near the state of the art, although the design was optimized for manufacturability, not performance. The efficiency was about 50-60% at specific speeds from .03 to .04.
Here are the blower components from a limited production run of 20 units. This blower is much smaller, less expensive and more efficient than competitor units. It includes proprietary features for better efficiency at lower cost which are not shown Note: Specific Speed in this application is defined as a non dimensional parameter Where n is the rotational speed, Q is the flow rate, DeltaP is the pressure rise through the blower and rho is the density of the gas. There is another version of specific speed for pumps, but it applies to liquids. . |
