Hot Wire Calibration and Measurement System

Flometrics designed and built a hot wire velocity and measurement system that is used to measure the flow in one of our customers devices. The system automatically calibrates the hot wire against a pitot tube in a special gas mixture at 40 psi and measures velocity profiles throughout the device. In order to calculate velocities based on pitot tube measurements, it also measures temperature and pressure.

The system also required traversing mechanisms which moved the pitot tube and the hot wire throughout the customers device.

The traversers used a cogged belt drive, a gear motor and a precision potentiometer to accurately control and monitor position.
